The Central California coast between San Francisco
and Point Arguello is one of the world's most fickle,
weather-beaten, rugged, frustrating and beautiful
stretches of shoreline in the world. Surf-wise, it's
magically diverse, picking up the same swells and
winds that buffet NorCal year-round, but here the
coast angles a bit more to the SE (not to mention
the S-facing haven of Santa Cruz), which offers
some respite from the wind. Central California is a
veritable paradise for the persistent surf-seeker
who doesn't mind icy water, narrow serpentine
roads, or the virtually inevitable disappointment of
fluctuating wave quality.
