NEW STORMRIDER REGIONS
We have been working really hard on The World
Stormrider Guide Volume 3 and the new regions will be added to the passport
over the next year. Some of them are super interesting and way off the beaten
track as promised.
In Europe, we’ve got some Med zones that don’t
appear in the Stormrider Guide Europe
- The Continent like the Black Sea coast of Turkey and the
Med holiday hotspots of Malta and Greece. The Med can get some powerful
pulses, which extend to Africa, hitting Alexandria in Egypt and Tunisia,
both of which have a few tasty waves. Liberia and Sao Tome look insane
and empty, while the eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal coast of S.A.
are thick with right points. The real adventurous will want to check
out the Indian Ocean chapter for frontiers like Oman, Central Atolls
Maldives and 2 zones on both coasts of the sub-continent proper.
East Asia is always exotic and there’s a few surprises like
Phuket, Malaysia and Hong Kong on the tourist trail but off the trail
we visit stone-age Sumba, Maluku and the island of Hainan, one of
two Chinese zones in Volume
3. Australia is work in process but look out for an offshore
gem. Pacific Ocean Islands - New Zealand is a land of many contrasts
and there couldn’t be two more extremes than the warm waters of
Northland to the freezing big waves of Dunedin near the tip of the South
Island. North America is shaping up nicely with northern highlights like
Alaska, Vancouver Island and Humboldt County offering a huge array of
juicy waves. It’s party time in Central America & The Caribbean
where waves from Jamaica, Cuba, Antigua and Trinidad are crying out for
some riders. Finally, South America is a mix of warm Caribbean juice
including Venezuela, Colombia (both coasts) and even a look at the incredible “pororoca” river
waves at the mouths of the Amazon, while down south Uruguayan surfers
have got it all to themselves as their mix of sand and reef waves
continue to get overlooked.
